The Count of Monte Cristo (spoiler if you haven't seen the movie)

So I went over to my girl friend's tonight to have dinner and watch the above-referenced movie. Now that was a good flick! I only feel a little puzzled in that he doesn't learn anything about revenge and how it was better to not go after it. I mean, where did he learn it? Was it from Mercedes getting shot that he realized that he'd gone too far? It didn't quite gel for me, if that is the case. God gave him justice, I suppose, but I don't see how it really taught him anything about leaving vengeance to the Lord. He became the very thing he despised - just like the people who betrayed him. I need to read the book. However, I'm glad that I saw the movie. Jim Caviezel was wonderful. And his eyes are limpid pools of quiet strength and beauty...
