Conversations with God
God has a sense of humor. I'm on my way to church this afternoon. It's raining, starting to snow. I'm getting really scared about driving on the road, as I've turned on the radio to WTOP and am hearing about the accidents on all the major routes I could use to get to church. I (stupidly?) decide to take 66 instead of the GW Parkway because of the accident I heard happening just before my exit. It's slick, and people are scaring me - and mind you, I don't scare easily. But things were pretty treacherous and at one point, I'm about ready to turn around and go back home. At that point, I start talking to God out loud. I am beginning to apologize/explain that I don't want to go to church because I'm afraid of being out on the road. As I'm venting this thought, I change lanes over and get behind this car. The bumper sticker on the car is bright yellow and says, "Don't be afraid." Wow. That gave me pause. Could that have come at any better time? It was so perfectly timed, it was funny and I had to laugh. So I put my trust in God to take care of me and keep going. The service was nice - talking about how while Jesus was an ordinary man, he was extraordinary. And extraordinary he is. The God of the universe looked after lowly me. Thank you, Lord, for keeping me safe. I got scared, and you comforted me almost instantly. Thank you for being faithful to me; help me to be faithful to you.
