Mischief Night and Horse Shit

So it's the weekend of Halloween. Tonight is actually Mischief Night, the night before the actual day of Halloween. I don't know how much mischief I'll actually be making, as I'm a good kid. o:) But I will have fun nonetheless... you'll find out when I get back. ;) Today I dragged my butt out of bed and went for a ride on the Washington, Baltimore, and Annapolis trail. It was gray and a little misty out today, but not too bad. Traffic on the trail was almost nil, which was nice. My overall impression, though, is that I don't like this trail. First, it's too short. 5 1/2 miles from Lanham to the Anne Arundel County line in Bowie. 11 miles round trip. I'm not impressed. It's good for a short ride of about an hour, but if you get hyped up to keep going, you're screwed. Next, it may be covered in horse shit for a good stretch of the way. Literally. There are some stables up around Mile 4, and it's painfully apparent that they take the horses out onto the trail. How comforting to see piles of fresh horse dung plopped in the middle of the trail! Not! That's disgusting. Third, there is no public parking near the actual trail head. You have to find a spot 1 mile in before you find a decent place to leave your car. This is a downer. Fourth, it's not even a pure off-road trail. There are sections that you have to share with cars. Granted, these are not busy roads, but as a newbie that makes me a little nervous. Maybe I'm just a weenie. Yeah, I'm just a weenie. I can admit it - I have no pride. So there. Anyway... Some Anne Arundel County residents are fighting the extension of the trail. If the horse race complex at the end takes their horses out to shit on the trail, I think I can understand why they are resisting it. My body still hurts, but it didn't feel so bad on the bike. I had made some adjustments and so far they feel pretty good. I'm still a little stiff, but the workout is good to keep me limber. I went to work for a little bit after then, but not for too long. Now it's time to get ready for tonight's festivities. Maybe I'll make a little mischief. ;) See ya later. :)
