Lost Among the Blossoms
This weekend was a gorgeous spring weekend, and the cherry blossoms were at their peak. Most of the trees, anyway. Today, I put on about 27 miles on the bike and got lost. I was riding the Capital Crescent Trail and missed the entrance to the Rock Creek Trail, so I ended up in Silver Spring. Ack! I doubled back and found Rock Creek Trail, and managed to make it home. It was a good workout, and I understand the trail a little better now. :p Yesterday, I rode out to the mall on my bike and did the tourist thing. Even though I've lived here for the last three and a half years, I've never really made the time to look at the monuments or take advantage of the various cultural things that this city has to offer. I took a large amount of pictures, and some of them are pretty nice. After taking pictures near the Jefferson Memorial and East Potomac Park, I wandered over to the Washington Monument, World War II Memorial, the Lincoln Memorial, the Vietnam Memorial, and the Korean War Memorial. All I can say is, "wow." They are such stunning structures, and the war memorials give you pause to think of the lives lost. I got some very nice pictures of the Potomac River, the cherry blossoms, and the monuments. Because I feel like sharing... :) ... here ya go:
