Parade of Whores

The Terri Schiavo freakshow just got freakier, just when you thought it couldn't get any worse. Jesse Jackson enters the fray, coming down to plead for intervention and the replacement of Terri's feeding tube. Jesse Jackson. Jesse Jackson?! Just when you think you've seen it all, think again! The amount of political whores keeps increasing. He then tries to sway members of the Florida legislature, but is rebuffed. Last I recall, he's a Democrat. But then, not everyone opposed to pulling the feeding tube is a Democrat. From what I hear, this contingent of people think that a feeding tube isn't life support. Okay, I can see how they could not consider it an artificial life support - it's just food and water, or so they say. Yeah, maybe that could be true, but... what about what Terri wanted? Some people suspect foul play on Michael Schiavo's part because he moved on with part of his life. They can't understand why he'd turn down $10M to give Terri to her parents, and attribute it to some sinister wish to kill her, trumping up the (not credible) abuse charges again. Michael has said that he will have an autopsy for Terri, conducted by the St. Petersburg Medical Examiner, and the results will be published. Most important of this is to discover the extent of the damage to Terri's brain. Would you believe that people are still saying that he's trying to cover his alleged abuse up? Absolutely incredible. He can't win with these people, no matter how you look at it. And First Lady Laura Bush says that President Bush stepping in to meddle was right. Huh? Why is a personal family choice a federal issue? And she went on to say that she and W have living wills. Well, shit, why? If you are so much a part of this "culture of life" then why have a living will? Why not try to extend your lives - or, like in this case, the life of your soulless body - indefinitely, no matter what crazy lengths you want to put your family through? I feel ashamed to wake up and wish that Terri's body will have finally passed. But God knows why he keeps it alive. What are we supposed to learn? Maybe the nature of the people in power... and what this country has the potential to become? That's scary. Maybe it's to learn something about ourselves. I mean, it's a huge wake-up call to have a living will, if you don't already. That sounds like the easy answer, and God doesn't always make the answers easy. God bless us all.
