The Spice of Life
Variety really is the spice of life. I had a passing thought that has come back to me - Krav Maga. From the site: What is Krav Maga? Krav Maga is the self-defense and fighting system of the Israeli Defense Forces. A hybrid of karate, wrestling, judo, jiu-jitsu, boxing, muay thai, and street survival tactics, Krav Maga is a simple, effective self defense system that emphasizes instinctive movements, practical techniques, and realistic training scenarios. Students learn to deal with almost any violent or threatening situation through the use of hand-to-hand combatives, improvised weapons, or simply knowing when to escape danger by running away. It's combat for a modern world - a system that's heavy on the martial and light on the art. It would be a good way to get my lazy butt into shape, to mix in with my recreational cycling and soccer in the fall/spring seasons. If you read this blog with any consistency (highly unlikely, but what the hell, eh? I had to say it), you must think - "lazy?" Well, yeah. I am a little lazy. I could be doing so much more for my body. I don't get out as much as I should, and some of these activities are just not enough for my body to improve its condition. There is a strong connection between looking good and feeling good, and I just don't feel as good as I could. My energy is in the toilet. Part of that is mental, and I really can use the mental toughness right now. It would be a great deal - refreshing my self-defense skills and improving my fitness all in one. And to alternate it with the other things I like, namely cycling and soccer, may just be the ticket for me on the road to optimal mental and physical fitness. It sounds like a good idea... I'm seriously considering it.
