Due Diligence

Today was a pretty exciting day in terms of this property case that I'm working on. We were doing our due diligence to find out what exactly was going down with a particular plot of land. This means that we did a title search, and we also paid a visit to the office of the surveyor to look at the plot that the client purchased in the transaction. All I can say right now is WOW. Something really dirty went on in this deal; this is not mere misrepresentation, this is straight up fraud and collusion. While the actual mechanism of doing the searches is quite mundane, the information we found is both scary and exciting - it blows the mind how sick some people are, and what they will do for money. I was angry. Something this bad... someone needs to go to jail. And considering all that we know now... I am going to enjoy every last second of writing the complaint for mail fraud and wire fraud - federal charges - against these slimy bastards. Dirty rotten scoundrels, indeed. This is the stuff that makes you feel good about being a lawyer - being able to stick it to the bad guys. I love it. In another case (child support), the discovery came in and we know that the other side has not disclosed her employment as a stripper since the birth of the kid. Ooopsie! Now I just need to get someone there or documents that will prove her on-the-side, undeclared employment. Subpoena time! And to cap the night off, I'm meeting up with yet another CL guy to do some salsa dancing down in Arlington. I figured that an extra night of dancing a week would be good. I mean, what else have I got to do other than come home and blog? ;) I have now started filling up my nights pretty well. And my days too, come to think about it. Not too shabby... CL activity partners is the way to go. Living healthy and living well is really good stuff.
