Lost
Today I put a few more miles on my body on the bike. I rode with another person that I met through CL, a teacher down in Alexandria. He's pretty cool, teaches high school bio, chem, and a forensics class that sounds completely awesome. He shows bits of CSI, and sets up "crime scenes" in the school for the children to investigate. He'll get other teachers or staff to participate so the children can conduct their "interviews." It's outstanding! That gives me hope for the educational future of America. Granted, there are lots of pockets of really good schools across this nation, but so much more could be done. And with teachers like him, who engage students and make it fun to learn, there is hope. We need more teachers like him. Anyway, we got lost! We intended to take the Washington & Old Dominion trail, and for a while we did - but the paved trail ended and we had to ride on the streets, and we had quite a time finding our way. We intended to pick up the Custis trail near Route 66 and double back toward the Mount Vernon trail and Gravelly Point just north of Reagan National Airport. But we never found the Custis trail! I did get a good bit of a workout, because I had to climb some serious hills. I didn't realize how tired I already was until my legs started crying on some of those hills. I really am just exhausted. These rides are good for me, though, and I need to build up my stamina. We still had a good time. We took a break in Shirlington and got a little food and some ice cream. I got a shake from Maggie Moo's that was very refreshing. It was a mix of Udderly Cream, Fresh Banana, and Creamy Coconut ice creams. Man, I want another one just thinking about it. Maybe substitute Cheesecake flavor for the Udderly Cream... yum. :) All the hills helped me work it off. hehe... I couldn't tell you how many miles we rode, but I'll err on the side of caution and say 15. I didn't take many pictures. I like to take more nature shots than taking pictures of suburbia, or to have a natural object be the predominant feature of pictures. I do, however, have 2 pictures for you. These are along Four Mile Run trail in Alexandria. Enjoy!
