On a Soccer Roll
Another soccer night with the Alexandria league. We lost this time, 2-1. But it was good, hard-fought game. I did well again, and my teammates are noticing the improvement in my gameplay. Man, I used to suck so badly... I'm glad that I can do something more to contribute to my team. I'm becoming "a force" in the backfield. Woohoo! Yay me! :) My hip flexor/quadricep, however, is acting up. Rutroh, George!! I also took a nice shot to the eye from my teammate - wow, that was not cool. Thank God that the eye is okay. Once I figured out that I could still see and that it was okay, I was scared for a little bit that I was going to have a black eye, but I don't think so. The eye was irritated for a while, though. One of the family members attending the game had some drops, they were a godsend. There is supposed to be another game tomorrow night, same league - a make-up game for the one missed when the fuse box was blown. I don't think we will be able to field a full team, and even so, a few of us were starting to complain of injuries (three other people were complaining of the same injury I have with my leg and one girl threw her back out). I think that I'll be getting some well-needed rest. Maybe we'll get lucky and it'll rain. I have a game Monday night with my church team. I think I'm going to be living on some ibuprofen for the next few days to heal up the leg. It's not awful, but I'd hate to do any lasting damage to it. I have already stretched in the shower, and will keep stretching it. In other news... Apparently, my brother's tumor is not giving up. It grew a little bit, despite the chemotherapy. That's not good. Apparently, he's made it into some kind of experimental trial for a drug called Transmid. Transmid is basically poison to the tumor , and will not affect healthy cells (unlike chemotherapy drugs). Transmid is made by a British company, and is one of two drugs that specifically target the cancerous cells in his brain by looking for rapidly-dividing cells. The molecules of the drug are too big to get into the cells via the bloodstream (capillaries too small, I suppose), so the drug will have to be administered through a catheter directly into the brain. Read this interesting Forbes article about the drugs. I found this when I went home last month, and tipped my parents off to their existence. We would have preferred IL-13 because it uses a different methodology of killing the cells, but either one will do the same job. Please, Lord, let this be the thing that destroys it once and for all. Please.
