Speed Demon
I had some serious computer problems - my desktop just wouldn't turn on. Blown power supply... and apparently the hard drive was all kinds of messed up too. Over 700 physical issues. Of course, I found all this out after an expensive trip to CompUSA to get it repaired - something I'll never do again. I'm too good with this stuff to pay through the nose to fix this stuff. I'm probably one step away from building my own computer, replacing the power supply shouldn't have been a big deal. Expensive lesson learned. But the bad thing is, by the time I considered getting a new hard drive it hit me that I didn't want to keep going with the computer I had. I'd had occasionally recurring troubles with the video, and it just felt like it was time to get a new one. So I did, a nice little cheapie for about $350 with a very nice AMD Sempron 2600 chip that is clocking about 2.6ghz in speed. The computer boots up so quickly, and the motherboard can easily handle my old video card. I installed and played Age of Mythology, and wow that thing loads so quickly, it's not funny. And is it me, or is everything suddenly a little sharper and prettier? hehe. It's just me... enamored with the newness of it all. But since I hadn't had a lot of time and it took a long time for me to get the computer fixed, it had been months since I played the game and my skills were rusty as hell. I'm still pretty good (well, not a newbie anyway) but my gameplay could use some work. But it's nice to be back on a full-sized keyboard and my gel pad to save my wrists. It's taking some time to get everything back together, but fortunately I haven't lost too much data from my hard drive. I have all my music and pictures, which are near and dear to me. I just lost some application data, like cookies and stuff. No problem, though, as I had a fairly close copy on my laptop. But still... there are some things missed, like recent emails and people's email addresses. I have most of it but it's not quite the same. Oh well, on with the new... :) And very quickly, too!
