The Enforcer
I finally found a way to stretch out this quad that doesn't hurt too badly and is actually effective. Played with the Alexandria league tonight and it didn't hurt so badly. Granted, I took some pre-emptive ibuprofen and popped some more at halftime... but the leg feels pretty good. I can keep playing safely, I think. Just need to keep stretching so that I remain flexible. We were short a few players tonight - almost had to forfeit but then I showed up. Hah! But we were outmanned, and they had some really good women. If we had a couple more players, it would have been much better. They didn't do as well as they ought to for being 2 players up and significantly younger on average than our team. We played hard, and it showed. Most of their goals were off of penalty kicks. My teammates are now calling me "The Enforcer" because of the way I play. I use my body to stop oncoming players. Typically that means that they and I take a serious beating. I clocked two people tonight, and the second one was a real doozy. These kinds of hits are not intentional - I'm not aiming for tripping them or anything like that, I'm just going after the ball and bracing my body for some impact or blocking them from passing. The results can be pretty devastating sometimes, especially with the women. I'm not a small framed chick - they are typically a little faster than me, but if I end up in some impact, I will probably outweigh them by a few pounds and not get bowled over. I'm not fat at all - I'm somewhere in the ballpark of 140 pounds, but I don't look it. Some people think I'm a size 6, but I'm really an 8. My bones won't let me anything smaller than an 8. I have no padding around my hips - you can feel my bones. I am just bottomheavy, and it's pretty much all bone and muscle. At least we got a good workout tonight, despite the loss. We worked them pretty hard and they should have done much better than they did for outmanning us. In everything there is some sort of blessing.
