Redux

So today I had two solo appearances scheduled (woohoo!), but only one flew! A scheduling oops caused us to miss the day for our motion - turns out that it was yesterday! Apparently, none of the parties showed up. Sounds like a scheduling problem from the court... Anyway, the other one went well enough. It was helping to argue against a motion from plaintiff's counsel that would prolong our agony with this case some more. It seems that the plaintiff is fairly unmotivated and won't show up for stuff. If this was DC or Maryland, I think the case would have been dismissed a long time ago. Or Westchester, even! But no, it's the circus that is Brooklyn. Figures. Speaking of Westchester, someone jumped off the parking complex's top level near the courthouse. My co-worker was up there and he almost stepped in it! Well, not really, but it was close enough. That poor man was mangled; for his own sake, I hope he got what he wanted, because living after that fall would be more horrendous than dying. I'm coming down to DC this weekend but not for pleasure - my roommate wants to go to a friend's funeral. So it's another late Friday drive down to DC, then up in the morning for the funeral. I'm not sure, but we may bolt right after the events are over, since she has things to do on Sunday. It doesn't really give me time to see anyone. But maybe... we'll see. She's not terribly decisive and that has been working my nerves in the last two days. She means well, but ... maybe it's just PMS. Gah. Anyway, it might be a boomerang. We'll see how it plays out.
