Katrina: More Ways to Get Involved

Here is a link to one of the blogs I've started reading. The guy is a New Yorker by way of Louisiana, and has ties to a community that has taken on quite a bit of the refugees from New Orleans. There is a way to send supplies directly to St. Landry Parish, as it is able to receive FedEx deliveries. Another resource: The Washington Post's blog has a list of ways to help and who to contact. Of particular interest to me is Project Backpack, which will equip school-age refugees with school supplies. They have met their first goal and are organizing another wave. Last for tonight, but certainly not least, my church, McLean Bible Church, is collecting certain items for the refugees, to wit:

  • Underwear (packaged)
  • Socks(packaged)
  • Cases of bottled water
  • Diapers
  • Toiletries
  • Handi-wipes
Like other organizations, they are also seeking donations, and they are also looking for volunteers that are willing to go to the Gulf Coast to support relief efforts. McLean Bible Church is located just outside Tysons Corner on Route 7 in Vienna. Read and act as the spirit moves you. Thanks for listening, but more importantly, thanks for caring.
