Necessity
...is the mother of morning people. Good God. I am, by necessity, becoming friends with the morning. I have to get up pretty early so that I can grab public transportation to get into the city. It's about a half hour ride, not bad. The firm is 9 blocks from Grand Central Station. I'm going to walk from GCT to the office; I need the exercise. I am now beginning to understand and appreciate the lax atmosphere of my old office. Now, if my boss wasn't such a lying douche, that would have been a different story... Speaking of which, I was out today with the fellow alum that knew my boss. She told me that it was because of someone else why I got the job - someone else that used to work with my old firm but left. He had worked there in my first summer but left, just like the dozen or so other attorneys that have been there. Apparently, he told her to get me out of there... and here I am! I went with her to court in Brooklyn today. Holy cow. That was like a three-ring circus! But it's not like that in all the courts, from what I understand. Apparently, it's far more civilized in Manhattan and Westchester, as well as a few other places. New York practice is going to take a bit of getting used to, but I can handle that. Right now, I'm concentrating more on figuring out the lay of the land and understanding their practice. Soon, however, I will need to get my own caseload and start thinking and acting like an attorney. Woo! I still have unresolved issues with the furniture. So many people have flaked out, it's not funny! Bastards. Anyway, I'll be back in DC this weekend to try to finish packing up the small stuff and cleaning the place out. Whatever I can't get rid of gets trashed. A shame, but I don't have the luxury of time to come back and do all this. Anyway, time to clean up for bed and hit the sack. I can't believe I'm doing this. Good night. *sniffle* P.S. What is UP with INXS choosing JD? My lovely Marty... I'll be buying the Lovehammers CDs. I'm sorry you didn't win, as this is a tremendous opportunity for you to collaborate with some of the best in the world. Hopefully many of them will now come to you, since they know how awesome you are. Love you, Marty! Rock on.
